"Would too!" Redpaw cried back, tail swishing behind him and clawing at the ice as he saw Fenpaw fall. His mom would /kill/ him if anything happened to her apprentice under his watch. As he scrambled towards her, slowing at the sound of her laughter, she crashed into him and he fell onto his side. The ice was cold and hard as stone, and he grunted, but rapidly clawed his way up. "Cheater!" he called teasingly. The wind was harsh. Maybe they were out too far. "Race you back?"

Fenpaw saw the inevitable coming seconds before Redpaw's foot collided with her flank and he was sent careening over her and onto the hard ice with a thud. She was worried for a split second before she saw him scrabbling to his paws, and after managing to find her own feet she said "Did not cheat! But sorry 'bout that, I wasn't trying to win by knocking you out." Her voice was sweet as she made the last remark, shooting him a cheeky grin before a sudden sharp gust of wind had her hunching her shoulders for warmth. "Let's not race this time. It's too cold," she said pleadingly, hoping that Redpaw didn't think she was a silly kit for saying so.

"Yeah, okay," Redpaw conceded, stepping closer to her and shivering as he started to slide his way carefully back to the shore. "Don't tell my mom about this, okay?" He couldn't handle another lecture. Fenpaw seemed cool, though. He figured he could trust her.

"Thanks," Fenpaw said, smiling at Redpaw as he stepped closer to her and they started to make their way across the lake together. Without the rush of the race she found keeping on her paws a lot easier, though noticed the cold a lot sharper. When Redpaw spoke again she glanced up at him, nodding as she said "Course I won't. We'd both get a stern word." A hint of laughter crept into her tone then and she risked nudging his shoulder playfully. As much as she liked Amberhaze a lot, she was like any mother in that there were some things she just didn't need to know.

Redpaw giggled in response, looking up happily as he spotted the land and the trees. "Ah," he said as he stepped back into the sheltered forest. "How does RavenClan do it?" he mused, looking back across the lake. He looked over at Fenpaw with a bright, teasing expression. "Come on. Let's get home and warm up."
