"...then I choose heaven."
The first rain of the season was normally a nice occasion for him, as it marked the season just as much as it marked the general passage of time. Despite him not liking the water much, he didn't mind the rain--he even welcomed it. Looking out from under the bushes he had hid himself in, however, he couldn't enjoy it in the same way. He had met--or really, was /reintroduced/--to his brother just a few days prior.
He couldn't think about that, though, because Silver's health was not at a level he was comfortable with. But he couldn't think about /that/, because the unusual scents he was picking up over the last few days told him that he wasn't the only one in the area, and that almost always meant trouble.
The last quarter-moon felt like forever.

Flareheart growled in annoyance as she squinted through the rain, unable to tell where exactly she was. She had been hunting and raced after a startled rabbit, resulting in her getting lost when the rabbit slipped away, leaving her to try and retrace her steps with little success so far. Muzzle twitching, she growled low in her throat in annoyance and lashed her tail back and forth.
At this point she wasn't even sure if she was in Willowclan territory at all! She turned away from trying to follow her tracks and instead tried to find a place to wait out the rain, finally feeling the cold seep into her bones as the rain just kept pounding, making it to her skin through sheer volume.

Kadaj had never had a great sense of smell. It was serviceable for knowing when other cats were around so when he could stay out of trouble. But in the rain, he stayed out of sight, choosing to remain alone and away from prying eyes. It made sense, then, that /he/ became the pair of prying eyes as he stared out from his protective bush.
Since he could not trust his nose, the moment he caught sight of another cat, he immediately let his gaze travel around the immediate area, searching for any others who might wish to cause trouble. He felt like he may be pushing his luck, but after not finding anyone else, he crawled out from under his shelter and cleared his throat, allowing his presence to be made known.

The sound of a throat clearing had Flareheart whipping her head around, hackles raising in alarm, a growl playing in her throat. Her gaze landed on a silver gray tabby standing a couple tail-lengths away from her, apparently having been watching her. Her paws shifted slightly as she debated on what to do before speaking "If I'm trespassing I didn't mean to, can't smell anything with this rain" she said cautiously, watching for any signs of aggression.

Her reaction wasn't a surprise to him, and because of it he barely had to attempt to keep his hackles down when she turned. It was clear enough by the way she spoke that she was either another WillowClan warrior, or a rogue who was just very particular about borders. Somehow, he doubted it was the latter. "I don't believe you are trespassing," he said slowly, but then gave a small roll of his shoulders. "But then again, I wouldn't know. /I/ don't live here." He emphasized the last bit a bit more than he probably should have, but it was something he couldn't help much.

Ear twitching, Flareheart tilted her head at the words "alright" she answered, wondering why there was emphasis on the last statement before just figuring it wasn't all that big of a deal. She was unsure of what to say or do at this point "I'm gonna get out of the rain" she finally huffed, shaking her head to get rid of the water that was dripping from her ears.

Based on where they were, Kadaj could guess that she was either another WillowClan cat or outsider. The latter rarely ever showed themselves openly, so it had to be the former. "I thought you cats liked the water. Does that not apply to the rain?" Funny, seeing as while he hated there mere /thought/ of setting his paws in a pool of water, the idea of water falling from the sky didn't really bother him. Maybe it was just the different concept.

The cats choice of words set Flareheart on edge, her eyes narrowing "You sound as if you know where I'm from" she mewed, her voice edged with caution. She ignored the question about rain, as she wasn't sure what cat like to just stand out in teh rain with no possibility of drying off.

Her response told him all he needed to know, although he couldn't be completely sure of his assumptions. He honestly didn't care too much, but considering the circumstances and the absence of Silver, he had to take whatever social interactions he could get before he had to crawl back to his den. "I have some idea," he told her honestly, giving another small shrug before looking back at her. "It doesn't matter much--it was just a joke. Sorry if I offended you."

Flareheart studied the tom, nearly blinking at the words spoken. She nearly huffed out a breath of air, "I'm just on edge" she mewed, no real apology but less hostility in her as her stance eased a little. "Any idea which way is Willowclan territory?" she asked him, her ears flicking as the rain continued to pour down. Her mind briefly drifting to what Shrikewind would be thinking right now "Shrikewind's probably celebrating my absence" she muttered to herself.

It was a good question, and one Kadaj couldn't confidently answer. With the rain washing away the nearest scents, he wasn't completely sure beyond the vague idea of direction. He was about to respond when he heard the name of his brother, stopping to assess what she had just said. Celebrating? Despite every part of him warning not to get involved, he was curious. "What did you do to pull his tail?" Too late did he realize how personal his question sounded--not to mention how casual he said it. The she-cat hadn't even told him that the cat she was referring to was a "he."

Flareheart snorted at the question, her mind completely missing the fact that the outsider had known that Shrikewind is a tom. "let's just say its family drama, he's just not happy that his only sister is still around" she replied with some sense of sadistic amusement. She was enjoying the small pleasures of keeping her brother on edge with the knowledge that she knew his secrets.

Kadaj was immediately grateful that she hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary, but the other part of him realized quickly enough that by her words, he concluded that this had to be his sister. There was very little shock, but there was the other part of him that found it strange that a Clan cat would speak so freely with an outsider--specifically, one she didn't even know. "Do you not get along with your brother?" he asked slowly, his cool nature doing little to hold his curiosity back. The only relationship he could remember was the one his two siblings had with one another, and he was not against getting what information he could. It wouldn't give him much other than satisfying his own curiosity.

Flareheart huffed slightly "that is an understatement. He's more of a thorn in my side than an actual brother" she said. She wasn't all that worried about spouting this out to an outsider, it wasn't like any of this information was news to anyone in the clan. If he did tell anyone it wouldn't damage her standing anymore than it already was.

It was funny, considering that Kadaj may be the only outsider to actually take interest in such claims. It wasn't going to provide him with any information he could actually use, but curiosity wasn't a crime, was it? "I had a brother like that once," Kadaj drawled, finding himself to be more and more amused as they talked more and more. While he rarely got along with his siblings after apprenticeship, it was really Shrikewind that he hadn't been able to stand. But the words thrown his way by his sister was not something he would forget, either. "A sister, too. Both less of a thorn, more like sharp claws."

Flareheart tilted her head at the words, studying the tom. "Well can't say I know what it's like to have two siblings like that." she mewed, her mind focusing more on the outsider and less on her own brother at camp. "You seem familiar, though I'm sure I haven't met you before" she mewed with some confusion, her brow furrowing.

Of course she wouldn't, since he wasn't there at all. It was a detail he didn't bother to comment on, although her outright admitting that he seemed familiar was at the least amusing. "I believe I may have come across your brother before," he told her, although offered no further details. It was just an innocent statement--he could have easily come across any other cat. "Perhaps he has mentioned me?" He was enjoying this far more than he should have, and he was pretty sure Silver would scold him had she been here now. The rain continued to fall around him, but this provided a good enough distracted for him not to care much.

She was unable to stop the derisive snort that came from her, "yeah that wouldn't be likely, we don't talk all that often" she mewed, feeling her fur prickle slightly at the feeling of familiarity grew stronger. She nearly huffed in frustration "you haven't hung around the border before?" she asked slightly, the only reason she could think of why he would be familiar.

Interesting, he thought, but he shook his head at her question. "Not often--not before meeting your brother. I know you Clans have boundaries, and I normally prefer to avoid them. We don't tend to get very warm welcomes." He and Silver didn't live anywhere close that would allow them to cross borders, even by accident. It was only Silver's advancing age and subsequent health issues that they had settled down for a longer period of time. Had it been his choice, he would have stayed away, but he would take any advantages it would give him for now.

Flareheart could only agree with the statement, outsiders were usually scorned by the clans. She studied the tom once more, unable to shake off the feeling that she knew this cat, though she couldn't detect any sign of him lying. "What made you come close now? if you prefer to avoid us?" she asked, her ears flicking.
