Ivypaw followed his gaze, but she couldn't see what he was seeing, both figuratively and literally. "So you do know things," she concluded, nodding to herself as though it was the answer to all of her questions. "So... riddle me this," she started, turning around again. "At what point do you warriors become all dark and depressing? Just curious, you know." That would be a nightmare, to become so dark and dreary that nothing was ever fun anymore.

Wolfpeak breathed out a laugh at Ivypaw's question. "Eh..." he started, dragging out his voice as if he were truly musing over the timeline. "I guess it varies, but you probably have a good 12 moons, give or take, after receiving your warrior name before it sets in." He grinned as he looked at her before looking forward with a shrug. "As you get older, you just think different things are entertaining. I don't know how else to explain it."

Ivypaw blinked when Wolfpeak laughed, surprised that she had even managed to prompt a response. Of course, all of what she said were attempts to get him to even crack a smile, but she hadn't expected it to actually work. "Every cat I've talked to act like hunting and fighting for the Clan is all that there is. Where's the fun in following the rules all the time?" Contrary to her earlier statement, she didn't care much that cats actually broke the rules--she just found entertainment in the aftermath. "You can't tell me that you wouldn't wanna break a rule, just for fun."

"Well you have to consider that we have to put on responsible fronts," he pointed out. "Especially because hunting, patrolling, and the occasional fight will all be a part of your life as a warrior once you're promoted. Besides, we can't be telling you apprentices all of the naughty thing us adults get into. Otherwise we would be bad influences."

Ivypaw rolled her eyes, figuring that the conversation was quickly turning into one of those "you'll have more responsibility when you're older" kind of lectures. However, she did manage to crack a smile at his last comment. "Ooh, 'naughty,' huh?" Looking at Wolfpeak, it was hard to believe he would ever even risk getting into trouble. Still, she couldn't help but be genuinely curious. "So, asking as a friend, what kind of 'naughty' stuff does a cat such as you get into? Promise I won't tell."

"Oh yeah? I'm gonna hold you to that," Wolfpeak grinned as he mulled over which of the stories would be okay to tell. Much of his shenanigans was done with his brother, but he didn't want to implicate him just in case. Even if Ivypaw kept her word and didn't say anything to anyone else, she might bring it up to him and Wolfpeak wasn't sure how Coyotestorm would react to that. "I've had my fair share of adventures, although it became harder to do once Ashenstar became my mentor. I felt like she kept an extra close eye on me. But she never knew about me sneaking out of camp to go to the High Cliff. I saw the spot that Sootwing fell from. I've also ventured outside of the borders more times than I should've, usually into the Outlands."

Ivypaw had never known Sootwing, so she hadn't seen what had happened to him, but she at least heard about it, and knowing that Wolfpeak had traveled to that spot made her almost envious. "Now you just sound like you're lying," she said gruffly, although a part of her almost hoped that he wasn't. She couldn't imagine what fun it would be if it was only stories that he was telling. Maybe if she could get enough out of him, she could attempt the same feats--maybe without anyone even knowing.

"Why would I lie about something like that?" Wolfpeak laughed. "Even if you went and told Ashenstar, the most I might get is some stern looks. It's not like she's going to ground me over something I did when I was an apprentice. Honestly, she probably already has some ideas anyway, knowing how perceptive she is."

"So that's how that works," Ivypaw concluded, staying silent for a few moments. Eventually, she looked back up. "You wait until way later to come clean--can't have it sitting on your conscience if you know you'll tell someone eventually, right?" It may have been an odd lesson to take from his statement, but any kind of justification was okay on her part. She rarely felt guilt for what she did, but this just made things easier.

"Sitting on my conscience?" He repeated, confused by the turn in the conversation. "I wasn't clearing my conscience. Those are hardly things that would have much weight on it by any means. You asked me what I'd done, I told you the things I could tell you. The secrets that do weigh on my conscience will continue to until probably the day I die because they're not my secrets." Wolfpeak glanced over at Ivypaw again, making eye contact with the younger she-cat. "But I also suppose I haven't really done anything so bad that it would eat at my conscience. I like to think that if I did, depending on the circumstances I guess, I would take responsibility for it. But things like crossing a border here or there, sneaking to High Cliff, venturing into some outsider territories...I don't think that type of stuff really matters. No harm done, no foul, right?"

"Hmm," Ivypaw grunted, turning away as though he had outright offended her. Her stance, however, showed that she hadn't really taken it the wrong way. The debates she had entertained her, but any time a cat agreed--or even showed that they didn't care much overall--she almost shut down. What else was there to argue about if the cat she argued with wouldn't do so? "You're a weird cat. Maybe that's what keeps you sane." It was an odd statement, but one that at least made sense in her head. A cat could only keep themselves sane as long as they did not let the monotony of Clan life get to them.

Wolfpeak chortled at Ivypaw's statement, but didn't think too much beyond it. Perhaps she had a point. "I believe when you take everything too seriously, it tends to stress you out," he replied. "Life can be short. I want to enjoy it while I can. I feel like the core of the Warrior Code should be valued, but that small things shouldn't be stressed."
