"....the world has tried to make me into. I didn't choose these scars, they were given me to by cruel love. I didn't do what I did because I liked it, I did it because I thought it was the right thing to do. And then one day I woke up and realized that I had been living a dark and terrible lie, and I ran." _____
His paws ached from walking so long, he'd spent much of the previous night traveling back to where he'd last been. Back to a place he both dreaded and hoped to find. He knew the terrible cat his sister was, knew how dark her heart was, but some naive part of him hoped that maybe he could change it, that they could return to the close siblings they'd been as kits. Before Runa had followed and hung onto Marina's every word. Before she'd scarred him, left him half blind in one eye, killed so many cats in whatever search she was on.
When he stepped into the small clearing, he knew instantly it was empty, all the scents stale and no signs of recent living. His heart dropped as he realized that she had left him behind without a thought. He should have realized a long time ago that Runa was dead and Angel ruled now. That Angel was the monster who had made him into a monster. Except he had left, spent moons recovering himself piece by broken piece and doing what he could to fix himself.
Kaine knew that he would never get that complete wholeness again, but maybe he could get close enough one day. Turning away from the empty camp he started walking again, limping slightly as one of his paw pads began to crack and bleed. He slowed as he neared a small stream, sighing as he stepped into it, refusing to look at his reflection, hating what he knew would stare back at him. The cats he had been with before, they hadn't seemed to mind, or at least they kept it to themselves if it did bother them.

Silver moved cautiously forward, ever since she had gotten lost in a walk from the den, she had taken to learning the area around her, ensuring that she could find her way back home. She also used her sense of smell more than she did her eyes and avoided crossing a river or stream unless she could backtrack across it easily enough. Her eyes blinked but were nearly unseeing of the world around her, all she could make out were fuzzy shapes that indicated objects in front of her, her muzzle was completely grey now, giving anyone who came across her the undoubted knowledge that she was way past her prime.
She also moved cautiously so that she didn't aggravate her already aching joints, she hated aging, hated feeling so helpless. Nose twitching, she turned her head as she caught a scent to her right and let out a loud yelp as her distraction caused her to run into a sticker bush. She hissed as she tried to detangle herself but only felt the thorns of the sticker tangle more firmly in her fur, she narrowed her eyes, hoping it would help her see the issue but it did little to bring the world into more focus.

He'd been lost in thought, mulling over what to do next, if he should find Tansyglow and Breezehowl again or maybe find Thistlemoon. His attention was snagged though when he heard a rustling sound nearby, followed by a hiss. With a moment of hesitation he stepped out of the cold water and made his way towards the sound, peering through the leaves of a small bush to see another cat tangled in a mess of stickers. Squinting to get his bad eye to focus as well he felt himself snort before he stepped from the bushes and make his way around to the cat's face.
"How did you manage this Silver?" He asked, a sense of calm relief washing over him at the familiar sight and scent of the old she-cat that he had grown close to when he had stayed with her. Kaine put his face near hers so she could both see and scent him better as he began to try and tug a few stickers from her pelt to help her out of the bush. Maybe it was a sign that he had found Silver instead of Angel, because his sister would have undoubtedly tried to use him for her plans again.

The familiar scent of Kaine swept over her a moment before she heard his question, she hummed with a sheepish smile "well, umm, I'm kind of going blind" she muttered, still trying to come to terms with that herself "I can see shapes just not what they are" She moved slowly as she felt the stickers loosen, giving one final tug and purring as she was free, letting her gaze sweep towards Kaine, though she was annoyed when she couldn't make out any features, only the blurry shape of his body.

It wasn't entirely a surprise to hear she was going blind, the same cloudiness that marred his half blind eye was filling hers, and while he wished he could fix it for her he knew there was little he could do. Stepping back once she dropped out of the sharp prickles, he tugged a few small ones from her pelt before speaking, "I'd have to imagine that would contribute to why you got stuck in the biggest prickle bush in the world?" He joked lightly, amusement causing a rough purr to rumble in his chest for a moment. "Well, I've about that in my one eye, so I can understand how you feel somewhat." He blinked at the way she squinted towards him, moving closer so that it would be easier to see his dark pelt.

Silver purred in amusement "It would have to I suppose" she agreed with amusement, his words about his bad eyes had her nose twitching slightly. She didn't think she would ever get rid of the anger at Angel, or whatever the she-cat called herself, for the damage she did to Kaine. The sound of rustling had her focusing back on the tom and saw that he had moved closer to her, enabling her to see him a bit more clearly, though she was still unable to make out the fine little details. "Were you looking for someone?" she asked, wondering what drew Kaine back this way "Kadaj and I set up a permanent den a little ways that way, since I started having problems getting around" she explained, indicating with her tail behind her.

Kaine hesitated to tell her that he had travelled back this far to see his sister, to plead with her one last time to change her way, but he couldn't bring himself to lie to Silver, not with the she had opened her heart to him without judgement. "I..I came back to find Angel. I thought I would try and talk to her one last time, but I think she may have moved on from the area." The admission burned his tongue, and he realized it was a foolish and naive thing to think he could talk Angel down, but it didn't change what his heart wished for.
He twitched his ears at the mention of Kadaj, and shuffled his cracked paws in the dirt to ease their aching a little. "I think though, maybe its better I found you instead of Angel though. I've missed you and Kadaj."

Listening to his words, Silver didn't offer any judgement or opinion on his thoughts about trying to talk with his sister, knowing that her current thoughts would not help. Her ears perked though as he continued, letting a small smile wash across her face "we've missed you as well" she purred, her nose twitching a second later as she picked up the scent of blood, coming from Kaine. "Are you injured?" she asked worriedly, stepping close to sniff over his pelt, worried that he had run into someone or something.

The dark tom shifted his weight again, ducking his head for a moment as he tried not to feel the shame that he had injured himself in his attempt to make his way back to Angel. "My paw pads are raw. I've been walking a lot...without much rest." A sheepish smile twisted across his face, how little he took care of himself when he was alone. It was a shame really.

Ears flicking, Silver let loose a small huff "come on then, we'll need to take care of those paws and you need rest and probably food if I'm guessing correctly" she mewed, moving to gently nudge Kaine in the right direction, her instincts to mother him surfacing quickly in the face of the information that he was hurt.

Kaine gave a soft smile at the motherly way Silver acted, it reminded him of his own mother, sweet and caring. "You..you've guessed correctly. I haven't eaten since yesterday morning." He was mostly used to that, having rarely eaten around Angel since she was to eat first and if there wasn't enough prey that day, then he starved. For sport he'd seen her make enough noise after she had eaten to scare off other prey, leaving him hungry. The kindness that Silver and Kadaj had shown him had been mildly terrifying in the beginning, but he was quick to accept it, hoping only for the best in his dark life.

Tail tip flicking, Silver could only hum in a knowing way before she started leading Kaine back towards her den, knowing that Kadaj would be pleasantly surprised by the visitor. She really hoped that Kaine decided to stay with them.

The scarred tom followed the old she-cat closely, occasionally brushing his pelt to hers, as if reassuring himself that she was there, letting his paws find the familiar paths that would lead him home. He blinked as that thought crossed his mind, that yes, he was going home, something he hadn't really had since he was a kit with his parents. But Silver and Kadaj made it easy to consider this area, their den to be home.

Silver enjoyed the brush of fur, her nose twitching as she followed her own scent trail. Her paw brushed up against a root and she hummed in satisfaction, knowing that the den was only a few steps away "this way" she mewed as she brushed her tail against Kaine's side as she stepped carefully into the den, ducking her head in practiced ease. It wasn't that big of a den but it was home. She immediately made her way to a corner where they kept extra prey "settle down anywhere sweetheart" she told Kaine, the endearment slipping thru easily as she picked up a mouse to bring to the tom.
