Dreamfeather lay in her nest in the warriors den, blinking her eye as she thought over everything that was changed. She had been given the all clear by the medicine cats, her wound was all healed, though the scar was still new and ugly across her left eye. She could deal with it, but was a bit worn out of all the stars and small gasps of breath from others, the older cats were better but the younger cats would stare and it made her uncomfortable. She avoided the kits just for the reason that she didn't wish to answer the questions they would undoubtedly have.
Narrowing her eye, she forced her thoughts away from what others thought of her and to her other dilemma. She had gone on a hunting patrol and realized how much had changed when she constantly missed the prey she had been stalking, her perception of their distance off from only having one eye. She had vowed to train once more, and had spent a good part of a day going through the motions of hunting practice, including just jumping at a piece of moss until she constantly landed on it. Now she had a different problem, if her hunting needed practice, she was sure her battle would need to be relearned as well. Growling, she wondered who she could ask, her siblings came to mind but they were both busy and on patrols so they were out for the moment. Her mind drifted before a familiar scent came to her nose and her gaze snapped around to try and find Acorndrop familiar pelt.
Not seeing him in the warriors den, she pushed up and exited the den, scanning the clearing for him with a mission in mind.

Acorndrop was returning from a border patrol when he spotted Dreamfeather stepping out of the warrior's den. He bounded up to her. "Guess what?" he chirped, his tail hooked and held high behind him. "The wolf den's clear, and there's an elk herd on the moor!" Occasionally the animals would move through, and as long as no one got close, they didn't pose a threat. He found them fascinating and beautiful. "What are you up to?"

Dreamfeather couldn't help the amusement she felt as she barely had to look before Acorndrop was right there in front of her, talking. Her ears perked as she listened to the news he was telling her and felt a sense of deep relief that the wolf den was confirmed clear. "If the elk are here means that theres got to be some food to draw them in" she mused softly, before his question drew her back to her reason for searching him out.
"I was actually looking for you, I was going to ask if you'd be willing to do some battle practice with me" she mewed as she shuffled her forepaws slightly, wondering about his answer, though she was pretty sure he would say yes, she still worried.

"Yeah, maybe it means there's a thaw coming," Acorndrop said, but he didn't really believe it. The elks were just as skinny as the Clan, and the rest of the prey. Their ribs had settled against their pelt. It had really been a sad sight. He perked up as Dreamfeather suggested battle practice. "Sure! I bet that'll warm us up. Do you want to head out of camp?" he asked, wondering if she had somewhere in mind.

Relieved that he agreed, she smiled before nodding in response to his questions about heading out of camp. She didn't wish to be a laughing stock among her clanmates at the moment. "I thought we could head for a small grove near camp, theres a large enough clearing for battle practice, but is surprisingly not used by mentors for training apprentices" she explained as she started for the camp entrance, feeling her muscles shiver in anticipation of the workout to come.

"Perfect, then we won't be bothered," Acorndrop said, turning to head out of camp. He had an idea of why she'd asked for help, but he didn't want to assume anything, so he didn't say it out loud. "It's been a hard leafbare," he said, figuring this would be a safer topic. "It feels like we have to search harder on patrol each day."

"yeah, and what prey we do find is considerably more scrawny than I've ever seen" Dreamfeather replied with some sadness, it was a harder leaf-bare than she thought they'd had in a while, considering the fire and flood that swept away the prey as well as their home. She refrained from making a comment about the prey she'd lost as she didn't wish to relive the humiliation of missing prey.

Acorndrop slowed as they approached the clearing she'd spoken of, glad to see it was somewhat sheltered from the wind. He stretched as he stepped into the space, looking back at her. "Want to attack me first?" he asked, tail flicking behind him as the anticipation began to build.

Shaking out her fur slightly, Dreamfeather focused on Acorndrop as she crouched down, her own tail flicking as she judged where to aim for. She tensed her muscles before lunging forward, aiming for his hindpaws, and hoping that she was actually managing to be on target with her attacks.

Acorndrop hopped to dodge the blow as Dreamfeather began the spar, but he hadn't needed to. The she-cat had missed, landing just to the side of him. He took the advantage without thinking, surging forward and tackling the she-cat. He pinned her to the ground, tail flicking with excitement. "Wanna go again?" he asked.

The feeling of not actually hitting her target had a pang in Dreamfeather's chest, moments before Acorndrop was pinning her to the ground. She held in the growl and twitched her nose "yeah" she agreed to his question, her eye narrowing as she studied the distance between her and the tom who was pinning her, relegating that it was a leg-length and decided to go from there. She was determined to relearn her perception so that she wouldn't be a hindrance to her clan.

Acorndrop noticed the lack of merriment in her tone, and stepped off her quickly. "We don't have to do this, you know," he said, because it didn't seem fun anymore. He'd known there was a weight to this practice, especially considering Dreamfeather's recent injuries, but it upset him to see her being so hard on herself. "We could try a different exercise, if you want?"

Dreamfeather got to her feet and shook her fur out. "No, I need to do this." she mewed with conviction, her eye flashing and a grin quirking at her mouth. "Ready for another round?" she asked, determination running through her, along with anticipation of the spar.

"If you really want to," Acorndrop said, stepping up to her as she prepared. He knew she had to practice, but it didn't make his task any nicer. He exhaled sharply, and then sprang forward, aiming to knock her off her paws and catch her off guard. He always did his best, no matter the situation, and he expected the same of his Clanmates, as well.

Dreamfeather had crouched in preparation for Acorndrop's attack, she jerked to the side as he sprang forward, wanting to hiss as her timing and perception were still off as she felt his paws fly into her hindlegs, causing her to practically fall on her side. She didn't dwell too long on the failed escape and instead used her momentum of falling onto her side to roll away from the tom, coming up on her paws a few tail-lengths away, her fur covered in sand and her nose twitching as the scar itched from the sand rubbing on it.

Acorndrop stumbled as she rolled away, taking a moment to regain his footing as she regained hers. He turned quickly towards her again and dashed forward, this time swiping at her shoulder.

Feeling an impact on her shoulder, Dreamfeather turned her head quickly to nip at the fur, her ears twitching as she also used them to determine where Acorndrop was. She took her own swipe out, hoping she was on target, aiming for a foreleg.

As his hit landed, Acorndrop ducked back from her nip, falling slightly off balance. Before he could regain his footing, Dreamfeather struck, and he toppled onto one side. He scrambled to get up before he was pinned.

Dreamfeather felt her confidence boost a little as she managed to actually hit where she had been aiming. She pushed forward, aiming to hit Acorndrop's flank to get him back down again. Her tail was lashing behind with excitement over the spar.

Acorndrop didn't manage to get to his paws before Dreamfeather was upon him, paws on his flank. He fell to the ground again and twisted to try and gain some ground, tail lashing in an attempt to distract her.
