Dancingflame stretched out her legs as she slipped out of the warriors den, she'd spent the last six moons in the nursery, raising her kits. It still hurt deeply that only one of her kits managed to make it to apprenticeship but she was moving forward and looking forward to getting back into the swing of being a warrior. Nose twitching, she looked around and wondered what she could do until the dusk patrol. She wasn't due for nay patrol until then but was itching to go do something.

New-leaf. He loved it and hated it. Tanglewave absolutely preferred the nice, warmer weather that came with new-leaf and green-leaf, but with new-leaf came the rain. So much rain. Yes, he was a WillowClan cat so he was supposed to love water, but rain made everything messy. He imagined he wouldn't mind mud if he were normal, but as it stood, he wasn't normal. He would trip over air, he didn't need nature to assist his clumsiness. The dark, mottled, smokey tom sat in the clearing and sighed at the thought. "And I already look messy, it's not like I need rain and mud to make me look worse," he muttered to himself. "Why can't my fur just sit cleanly? Nothing cooperates. Not my fur, not my feet..." Tanglewave's vocal thoughts drifted off as a clanmate walked by and he tucked his head down as if trying to disappear.

Dancingflame slowed to a stop as she heard someone speaking, turning her head she saw Tanglewave, looking as if he was trying to disappear. "You alright Tanglewave?" she asked him, her head tilted as she gently touched his shoulder with her tail.

Oh, StarClan. He had been noticed. Externally, he was silent, but internally he was wailing in despair. Around others he was more silent than the wind, but he was as chatty as could be when he was his only company. And of course, it was usually noticed because he couldn't seem to stop it despite being in camp. Only when others were directly around him. "Mm..mhmm..." he murmured, just barely nodding his head.

The low answer and movement of his head, had Dancingflame's brow furrowing slightly. She looked over at the camp entrance before looking back at the tom. "Alright, well I'm heading out to go hunting, would you like to join me?" she asked him gently.

Unable to hide his surprise, his head shot up to look at Dancingflame, almost as if he were wondering whether she might be teasing him. It wasn't often that someone outside of his family actually wanted to spend time with him. "S-sure," he stuttered, beginning to feel the nervousness of being around someone unfamiliar. Tanglewave stood and nodded his head, gesturing for her to lead the way. He'd surely trip over himself somehow, so it was best that he walked behind her so she wouldn't see it.

Dancingflame was surprised at the seeming shock that her suggestion brought but didn't make a big deal about it. "I'm heading towards the stream that's near the outsider border, figure there might be some fish or prey near the water" she mewed as she moved out of camp, feeling a tension in her chest relax slightly when she was outside the camp borders.

Tanglewave nodded his head as he followed her step, just short of walking alongside her, more focused on watching his step. When the silence settled, he looked up suddenly, feeling like she was expecting him to say something. "Y-yeah that sounds goo-" Unfortunately, his timing for not watching his step couldn't be worse as he predictably tripped over a rock jutting out of the ground and his sentence ended with an "oof!" instead. Clambering to his feet, he shook out his fur, feeling the familiar heat of embarrassment run through his body. "Sorry, I'm good," he mewed as he moved forward.

Dancingflame had paused for a second when she heard him trip but when he started moving forward she kept forward as well "its alright, I've had my fair share of trips" she mewed as she gave a small smile.

He felt grateful that she appeared to be so easy going. There had been other patrols that he had gone on with others that weren't so patient. Not wanting to press her patience, he decided to pay closer attention to his steps and force himself to walk at a pace more comfortable for him. It was hard not to get excited by the anxiety that he was falling behind and would slow her down, but he managed to make it successfully to the spot that she had been targeting. "What spot did you want to start in?" he questioned, his focus making his voice surprisingly steady.

Dancingflame studied the area for a moment before indicating a small patch of ground that was extending out more into the water "I'm gonna start there, see if theres any fish swimming. Been a little bit since I fished" she said with a grin, some excitement running through her.

"Okay," Tanglewave mewed, observing the fishing spots by the stream. "I'll take this spot down here. You might move some fish down my way when you get one." He settled downstream a short distance, still within clear earshot, but not right near each other. Fishing was one of the few things he felt relatively confident doing. While he wasn't usually able to apply focus to much, fishing was something he found he could more easily focus on. Tanglewave figured it had something to do with searching for the bodies of fish moving beneath the rippling water.

Settling down as well, Dancingflame was careful to make sure her shadow didn't fall over the water and she waited with a paw raised, her body settling into stillness as she watched for the tail-tell signs of a fish. It took moments of stillness before she spotted movement, once it was close enough, she shot her paw out and hooked the fish, quickly pulling it up and onto shore. She grinned as she quickly killed it so that stopped moving.

He kept his ears on Dancingflame, prepared for when she made her move. Sure enough, when her paw flashed into the water, the movement picked up beneath the surface of the water on his end as the remaining fish swam away. Spotting a decently sized one, he followed Dancingflame's lead and reached into the stream, managing to hook one for himself. Slapping it onto the shore, he quickly pinned it to the ground and finished it off. "Good start," he complimented, seeing Dancingflame's catch for the first time.

Dancingflame looked over at Tanglewave's catch "you as well, seems like the fish are out and about once more" she mewed, she pushed her catch far enough away from the edge of the stream that it wouldn't slide back in even just accidentally.

Tanglewave nodded his head in response, nervous by her compliment even though she was just returning his own. He turned his attention back to the stream, trying to regain his focus, but didn't realize that he was just a little too far forward until the edge of the ground beneath his front paws started to slide away. Fortunately, the water was shallow and only came up to just past the elbows on his front legs, but provided a rather amusing pose with his hind end in the air. Scrambling back, he shook off his front feet.

Dancingflame had focused back on teh water as well, until she heard a small scuffling sound and turned in time to see Tanglewave's front legs slide into the water. Her nose twitched in amusement but she refrained from letting out any noise as she wasn't sure how the tom would react. She waited a few moments before speaking, to ensure that her amusement didn't show "guess the banks are still strengthening" she mewed as she pawed at the bank near her. Shaking her fur slightly, she studied the water for a moment before stepping forward and slipping into the water.
She nearly purred at the sensation of swimming, something she hadn't done since before hte flood, and it was something she dearly missed. She looked over at Tanglewave "have you been swimming yet?" she asked him.

His skin burned with embarrassment as she spoke, but then he turned to her curiously as she got into the water herself. "A bit," he answered, his body softening as the tension was released. His gaze wandered from Dancingflame to the water, watching the surface rippled and glimmer in the sunlight. "Not swimming is hard because swimming is the only time I'm free." Realizing he said too much, his gaze snapped back to Dancingflame before going to the ground, but it was true. When he was swimming, he was free from his clumsiness. The water took his weight and while he was swimming, he knew what it meant to be graceful. The silence and peace of the water his only break from the chaos of his mind.

Dancingflame heard the words spoken and could take a small guess as to why. "I can agree with that, being in the water feels like everything else just washes away" she mewed as she moved so that she was standing mostly in the shallows, her hindquarters still mostly underwater. Looking at Tanglewave, she gave a small smile "come on, lets have some fun. Now that new-leaf is here the water is refreshing rather than freezing" she mewed.

He hesitated for a moment, nervous about getting into the water when someone was watching him, but the soothing sound of the water trickling won him over. Tanglewave stepped up to the bank, and very carefully stepped into the water in a conscious attempt to not make a fool of himself - again. There was a brisk chill to the water at first, but he got used to it fairly quickly and he closed his eyes as he enjoyed the weightlessness. "I've missed this," he admitted, breaking the light silence that had settled.
