Olivekit was bored. Quillflower was with Yewkit while he was sick, and because of that she couldn't see her brother anymore. Rosedawn had told her something about not wanting her to get sick too like Cherrykit and Mothkit, and as much as she didn't like it she'd had to put up with it. But she'd been sat in front of the Nursery for an age now, tearing apart blades of grass with her claws and hoping for something exciting to happen. When she eventually gave up on that hope, she decided it was better than she made something happen herself.
The clearing was mostly empty, but if she was lucky then the dens wouldn't be. Abandoning what remained of her grass she crossed the camp towards the apprentice's den, not bothering to announce herself before she wandered in. The closest cat to her was Haypaw, someone she'd shared the Nursery with until a short moon ago, so had no reserves in padding over to him with a snide sort of smile. "Hello," she started, pausing in front of him. "What are you doing today?" The question was asked with an uninterested air, the greeting as blunt as hers always were.

Haypaw was still getting used to his new apprentice duties, and after a morning full of gathering moss, he was spent. The only benefit was a fresh, clean nest, which he relaxed in as the camp grew busy. His eyes were closed, but he opened them halfway when he heard a voice in front of him. He saw Olivekit standing there with an insolent air around her. A ghost of a smile came to his lips as he regarded her, and he knew then that the peace he had found would be short-lived. "Olivekit," he greeted. "I spent my whole morning gathering moss, it was great. I had so many dreams of how enjoyable apprenticeship would be, and I'm glad they're coming true." He snorted and rolled to his side. "I imagine your day was as invigorating as mine." The wry humor slid off his tongue with ease.

"Oh that sounds fun," Olivekit replied, emphasising the word with the same wry tone that Haypaw had used. "I can't wait to get to enjoy all of that, it sounds like it's going to be a blast. So much more fun than sitting in front of the Nursery with nothing to do and nothing to see." Her words practically dripped with sarcasm, the sort that would have earned her a chiding glance by every mother bar her own but went unchecked in the apprentice's den. There was something to actually look forward to. "So yes, every bit as invigorating. Want to turn things around rather than the both of us just wasting the rest of the day?" She tilted her head and fixed him with an intense look as she waited for his answer.

He returned her look, his smile growing. “You already know I’m up for anything.” And he truly was—he skimmed past the rules frequently, and he was successful more than he was caught. The stakes changed now that he was an apprentice, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t willing to bend what he could anymore. He rolled right-side up and drew in closer to her. “What did you have in mind? Maybe something that’s actually a challenge for once?” His expression was a touch cocky, but it was light-hearted overall. Haypaw stood up, then extended his paw to nudge Olivekit so they switched positions. His slightly larger size would shield her from anyone looking into the den, and she could speak without anyone else watching her.

She'd been expecting Haypaw's answer, that was why she'd asked him. Olivekit didn't like being disappointed. One eyebrow rose at his cocky remark but for a moment she only smirked in response, catching his idea immediately when he stood and nudged her round into a more private position. That was sharp thinking on his part and she liked it. "I want out of camp and you're going to help me," she said, her tone suggesting it was much more of an order than a suggestion. "You must know a secret way out by now. I'm stick of being stuck here with nothing to look at and nothing to do while my mother panders over my brother being pathetic." She rolled her eyes at that. Quillflower was always shoving her away while she doted over sick little Yewkit and now the medicine cats were doing it too. He was just sniffly all the time, didn't mean he deserved all the attention. She liked Yewkit well enough when he wasn't being pathetic, he just needed to get a grip.

Sneaking himself out was one thing, but sneaking out someone else who wasn't Beanpaw was different. He and Beanpaw worked like one, so anyone else did present a challenge. "Ah," he began, his interest saturating the single syllable. "So you have come to me with a challenge. I see I don't have much of a choice... I may know a secret way out or two." Haypaw met Olivekit's eyes. "I can get you out, the territory's quite nice." His smile was lopsided as he kept speaking, "But what's in it for me? Do you think I'll do it for free?" His expression was serious for a moment as he stared her down, before it dissolved with a laugh. "I'm kidding." He bent close to her ear, then started to whisper. "Behind the elder's den, there's a small patch of bracken towards the ground of the camp wall that's broken. The damage is hidden by a rock... if you're nimble enough, you can squeeze under it. I'll meet you on the other side." He turned without another word towards the camp entrance, leaving her to find what he described.

Olivekit tilted her head assessingly as Haypaw spoke, watching him levelly despite his slightly greater height. "It'd better be," she said smoothly to his remark on the territory, perfectly aware that his casual attitude was hiding something, and wasn't surprised when he bent close and asked what she was willing to pay. It was more surprising when he revealed himself to be joking, and she cracked a smirk that didn't quite reach her sharp eyes. If Quillflower had taught her anything it was that nothing came for free. But if he called in a debt later then she could deal with that later. She listened carefully to his instructions and parted without a word when he headed for the camp entrance, avoiding Floodfield's gaze as she walked with confidence behind the elder's den and found exactly what Haypaw had been describing. A few moments later she was on the other side, and she took a second to remove the bracken shards from her pelt as she waited for Haypaw to arrive.

Haypaw nodded to a few cats as he took his time. He walked through the camp entrance as innocently as he could, then waited a bit longer to make sure no one followed him out. He went the opposite way of where Olivekit would be, then looped around in a wide arc so he came to her opposite the camp wall. Perhaps there was no need for such caution, but sneaking a kit out of camp was a serious offense if he was caught. Naturally, he didn’t plan to, but that was why precaution was necessary. He pushed through the undergrowth and saw the she-cat waiting, unsurprised that she found it so quickly. “Good,” he said without delay. “Let’s go before we’re discovered.” He walked back the way he came quickly, expecting that she would be able to keep up. When they were a good distance from the camp barrier, he paused to look at Olivekit with a smile. “Now that you’re here, you must have a place you want to see?”

She didn't say anything upon Haypaw's order, just following after him quickly before falling into step beside him. While she was technically still a kit, Olivekit had no intention of getting left behind now that she'd made it this far. When Haypaw looked over at her she shrugged, huffing a little as she met his gaze while making sure she didn't risk tripping over anything unexpected. "You're the apprentice. You must know the best places to see. All I've managed to drag out of Quillflower is that we have a river and that there's a lot of willow trees," she said, an expression of obvious disgust on her face. Most of the questions she'd once pestered her mother with had been shoved off with minimal information to the point where she'd mostly given up on asking her anything.

The best places to see was a little subjective, but Haypaw supposed most new apprentice—or unruly kits—would find the same sights interesting. He thought for a moment, watching Olivekit’s expression change. “There are a lot of willow trees and rivers,” he agreed. “The Sunny Rocks are always nice to visit. They’re large rocks that are comfortable to bask in the sun on, and the water there is shallow and calm. But if you wanted to see something that doesn’t involve relaxation, we could visit the lone willow in the middle of our territory. It’s a challenge to try and climb.” He fell quiet then, assuming his silence would prompt a response from her. He wasn’t sure which she would prefer, so he readied himself to visit either location.

His two options both sounded interesting, and Olivekit tilted her head slightly in thought as she considered them. The lone willow sounded more interesting, but on the other hand the sound of relaxing for a while away from the chaos of camp was more than tempting. After another second she said "The Sunny Rocks. I fancy some quiet time." The sun was out and it was fairly warm for newleaf, meaning it was a good day to do there. And if the lone willow was thought of as the big challenging thing for apprentices to climb - she knew Batpaw had been out there the second he was promoted - then anyone who'd noticed their escape would probably think to look for them there instead.

He nodded his approval. Haypaw hadn’t been there in a while. It wouldn’t be rare to see someone else there, so they would have to be careful. He set off in the right direction, keeping his pace moderate so that Olivekit could keep up and still look around at the marvels of their territory. It was a beautiful day to be out on the marshes, and he kept stealing glances at the she-kit to watch her reaction. He kept his ears pricked and his senses alert in case they ran into anyone else. The ground grew softer as he followed the main river that coursed through their territory. He paused at a wide sandy bank, then gestured to the other bank. “See those flat rocks in the sun? That’s Sunny Rocks. We’ll need to cross the water here to get to them.”
