Eira was dead. Those words seemed to sing within Thicketfrost every time he breathed out, and the world seemed to repeat them with every breeze that he let ruffle his fur. He'd been there with Ashenstar, he'd seen her cut through the cat he'd always thought was untouchable just like her claws had sliced through his cheek when she found out where his loyalties lay. The seasons since that day had been hard for him, too scared to leave the camp by himself in case he wasn't lucky enough to be rescued as Trenchflame had done for him in case it happened again. But it had been a little while since his mother's death, and for the first time in moons he was walking the borders by himself.
Despite how much he was truly enjoying his newfound freedom, that didn't mean that his paranoia-born habits had died along with the cat who had caused them. The sound of a bush rustling nearby had sent his fur standing straight on end, claws unsheathed as he looked round frantically for any sign of the telltale white pelt. It was then that he reminded himself she couldn't hurt him anymore, and the sound had come from the AspenClan side of the border anyway. Turning back on himself to try and track it down, he called out "Who's there?" as he searched among the trees.

Tinybreath wasnt sure exactly where she was going or where she was. She grumbled at that fact, cursing her stupidity for the thousandth time that had landed her in this position. She nearly snarled as she stumbled into a bush. She huffed and managed to disentangle herself from the bush, feeling it tug on her fur.
Tinybreath had managed to slip out of camp alone, a hard feat to do since it seemed to be the general consensus that she couldn't take care of herself. And now she was a bit put out as it seemed she was gonna prove them right, at least a smidge. The sound of someone calling out, had her ears perking and mouth opening to catch any scents. "Hello?" She called out as she moved forward slightly, catching a scent but was trying to identify it.

"Hello?" Thicketfrost responded to the call, moving through the undergrowth until he saw a familiar flash of black fur. Rounding a bramble bush he was surprised to find himself face to face with Tinybreath. Of course that wouldn't have been surprising at all once upon a time, but he didn't think he'd seen the former deputy out of camp since she'd lost her sight attempting to avenge his foster mother's death. "Hello Tinybreath, it's Thicketfrost," he said, voice polite and without a trace of surprise that he'd found her out here. She'd been formidable during her prime and he was pretty sure she could still add to the scars on his cheek if he made her out to be helpless.

Tinybreath had managed to stop as she heard pawsteps, her ears flicking as she judged they were right in front of her moments before Thicketfrost announced himself. She refrained from the reply of scent, figuring that it was something she would have to get used to. "Hello, I didn't expect to really meet anyone out here" she mewed, her nose twitching as she still tried to figure out how far she had gone from camp, though she was too stubborn to ask Thicketfrost where they were. She was hoping he would think she had come here on purpose"

"Neither did I. We're a long way from camp," Thicketfrost said with a slight shake of his head, realising belatedly that Tinybreath wouldn't be able to see the movement. At least he wouldn't need to think about her looking at his expression or the scars on his face. He didn't mind bearing the marks of his mother's claws anymore, but her anti-outsider stance had been widely known and he had never quite been able to work out exactly what her stance was on him. "Were- were you here to patrol?" he asked a little hesitantly, "I was too but I can go if you wanted to be on your own."

Taking in the words about camp she figured that she had to have wandered a far bit from camp, though it didn't give much more info into where they were. His question had her ears flicking slightly "No, I just wanted to get out of camp. Didn't realize how far I had gone though" she mewed with some amusement in her voice. Tinybreath tilted her head slightly "How are you doing? From what I heard you got some injuries from Whitefern before her death" she asked gently.

Thicketfrost nodded in understanding, but this time he was quicker to remind himself that he'd need to give her a visual response too. "That's fair. It's why I'm here too. I haven't been out of camp by myself since... well, since that," he ended, finding it ironic that Tinybreath had brought up the altercation with his mother just then. He hesitated for a moment, humming in acknowledgement of the question before he found the words to answer. "She tracked me down and caught me alone, she wanted to kill me for rescuing Raggedstar. If it wasn't for Trenchflame then I wouldn't be alive," he murmured, his voice quiet yet steady as he recounted the tale. "Whispermoon said that the scars on my face and throat won't heal. But I guess I'm lucky to have lived." He trailed off there. But the gentleness in Tinybreath's voice as she'd asked him meant he didn't feel as though he was waiting for her judgement for once.

Listening to the ordeal, Tinybreath felt her tail tip flick slightly as she remembered all the times she had looked upon the young tom with suspicion and barely concealed judgement. "I'm glad that Trenchflame came when he did." she mewed, finding herself meaning it. She waited a beat before speaking once more "I do have to say that I misjudged you before, placing you in a position without really any cause to do so. We all make choices and all make mistakes but you did come thru for Aspenclan and I really appreciate that, Aspenclan is my home." she mewed, hoping that Thicketfrost would take her words in the way she meant it.
