Raincloud blinked her eyes slowly, nearly groaning from where she lay in her nest in the nursery. Her limbs ached and her head felt as if it was swimming in a cloud, unable to concentrate for very long. She deeply wished that Lynxheart was here but he had been banned from the nursery since he had caught a cold, a hope that he wouldn't spread it to the remaining occupants of the nursery. Raincloud could only wonder if the step had been a little too late but then it occurred to her that this didn't feel like a normal cold.
It took her a few moments to come to the thought that she would need to let Dartwing know about her condition, her kits were due within days and she had a bad feeling about feeling this sick in the days before. Taking a deep breath, she managed to push herself to her paws, nearly whimpering as her paws shook with the effort it took to keep standing. Managing to stay on her feet she start a slow approach to the nursery entrance, panting harshly at the movement, her mind not even contemplating what she was going to do once she got out of the nursery.

Dartwing was sitting in the warm sun in a corner of camp, taking a rare moment to relax. He was across from his den so he could see someone enter, and he kept it in his vision as he stretched out. He didn’t get much time to himself, so he stole those away when he could. He managed a few peaceful moments before he spotted Raincloud wobbling out of the nursery she was close to kitting, so any appearance from her caught his attention.
He rose to his paws and trotted over, scanning her as he did. His sense was honed enough by now that he knew something was off. “Raincloud?” he said cautiously. “Is everything all right?”

Blinking, Raincloud stared at Dartwing for a few moments seeming to see through him before it registered who he was. "Dartwing, I-I don't feel good. I-" she managed to get out, her words slow and seemingly thought out. Her legs shook under her before she very nearly just collapsed into a sitting position, wanting to groan at the relief of doing so.

The answer was no. Dartwing moved to her side as soon as she lost her balance, and he braced his shoulder under her flank to keep her upright. He guided her to the medicine cat den and to a pre-prepared nest. When she was lowered and sitting, he began prodding her gently to check her kits, then he stepped back when he was satisfied. “What doesn’t feel right?” It was her second pregnancy, so Dartwing didn’t think she would be having problems related to it. He expected it from first-time queens, not second-time. What could it be, then? His mind ran through several ideas, but without symptoms he couldn’t pinpoint anything accurately.

Raincloud could only follow Dartwing's prodding, once she was sitting in the nest, she took a bit to collect her thoughts once more. "my legs hur-t, and my he-head feels weird" she mewed weakly, "I-I can't concentra-te" she said as she managed to slowly lower herself into a laying position, knowing that her legs wouldn't keep her up for much longer, not with the way she felt.

Dartwing worked his jaw around, the only visible sign of his frustration. There were many ailments with those symptoms. The fact that they were showing up right before her kitting didn’t bode well. Whatever it was, he wasn’t sure he could treat it in time for it to clear before her delivery. The delivery would weaken her further, and at that point he wasn’t sure what their options would be. Heart pounding, he swallowed heavily. “How long have you had these symptoms?” And why wouldn’t she have come to him the moment she felt off? If she couldn’t walk now, she must have felt poorly for at least a little while. “You haven’t been overexerting yourself, have you?”

Raincloud thought of how long she had felt off, though she hadn't thought of anything wrong since they hadn't been this bad. "I-I started feeling off a few days a-ago but it didn't feel like this." she mewed, her gaze flicking around once before going back to Dartwing. "I don't think so" she answered in reply to his last question. "I'm sorry" she knew she had been stupid not to go to Dartwing the moment she felt different but she hadn't thought much of it, and had focused on preparing for her kits to arrive.

There was no turning back time, so he would have to focus on what he could do now. He didn’t respond to her apology, since it wasn’t his to accept. “I can give you some feverfew to help with the symptoms, but with your kitting almost here, I don’t want to give you too many herbs.” With that, Dartwing moved to pull a few leaves from his herb store and set them before her. “I want you to stay here until the kitting,” he added. “If you can’t walk, it won’t do to have you falling and hurting yourself or the kits. Is that clear?” He wore a smile on his face to lighten the words and to hide his growing uncertainty.

Licking up the herbs, Raincloud could only nod her head to Dartwing's instructions, knowing that it was better she stayed in the medicine den then trying to make her way to the nursery and possibly cause injury to the kits that rested in her belly. She rested her head down with a weary sigh, her eyes flicking close as she thought of what could happen over the next few days.
