Whispermoon nosed through her herbs, careful to keep them sorted and free of unusable ones like her mentor had taught her many moons ago. She still felt Mumblefall's absence deeply, and the emptiness of the den that had become hers alone was something she didn't think she would get used to. She hoped to find an apprentice soon, someone who would follow in her paw-steps the same way she had followed Mumblefall's and he had followed his mentor's and so on generations upon generations. She shuffled back out of her cubby, shaking bits of leaves from her whiskers and pelt as she turned to exit her den, blinking against the bright noon day sun.
She smiled at a few nearby cats as she settled outside her den to soak up the warmth, knowing that very soon the chill would be biting hard at all of them. The speckled she-cat had done what she could to prepare for it though without killing off her supply, so now it was nothing but waiting. Casting her gaze towards the busy camp, she rested her chin on her front paws and sighed.

Echostar shook her fur slightly as she slipped out of the nursery, having moved in their only days before. Though she still occasionally slept in the leaders den when she was craving solitude, her nose twitched as she studied the clearing around, noting the business of the cats, everyone was preparing for the upcoming leaf-bare, a lot of them rushing out on hunting patrols and border patrols that also doubled as hunting patrols.
She spotted Whispermoon outside the medicine den and debated a moment before walking over, she knew that she would have to have a relationship with Whispermoon as leader, deeper than the one she already had with the medicine cat. She did like Whispermoon, the soft spoken she-cat had been there as a support during the early days after she gave birth to her first litter. "Feels like one of the last warm days we're going to have for a while" Echostar commented when she was close enough.

The approach of Echostar didn't go unnoticed by the speckled she-cat, she calmly watched the leader make her way towards her, belly round with kits. There was pride in Whispermoon's heart at the thought of kits. She always loved kits, not only were they new life, but she felt such happiness in watching them come into the world. Lifting her head from her paws she smiled, "Mm, I think you are not wrong. The cold season is fast approaching, but we are strong." She gestured with her head to the spot beside her, "Would you like to sit with me?"

Echostar grinned softly "I'd love to" she mewed before settling down, nearly grumbling as she felt like she was bigger than she actually was. Her tail curled around her paws, her gaze scanning around the camp once more "we've had a rough go of it last leaf-bare but hopefully it all goes smoothly this time." she mewed, her mind casting back towards the previous leaf-bare, rough due to the fact that they had three clans in their territory during leaf-fall, prey had been scarcer than she had been able to remember. They had lost a couple of cats due to the lack of food, something she was determined would never happen again.

Whispermoon hummed softly, watching as Tumblefoot trotted into camp, beelining for the nursery to bring Driftfire a mouse. "Barring the elements going crazy again, I believe we will be fine. StarClan hasn't given any sign of big trouble coming our way, and the forest still has enough prey for now." Her gaze drifted to the apprentice's den, a few of the young cats tumbling around in play. "We are at our strongest now. We've survived so much more than the cold." She tried not to reflect on the darker days that AspenClan had faced, but sometimes one had to acknowledge the past to understand how it effected the present. She could tell that the clan had grown in strength since the days of Akai, since the days when three clans resided in the one camp.
"They have a good leader in you. A lot of them look up to your strength."

Echostar shifted her paws slightly at the words, "I'll always do my best for AspenClan" she mewed, knowing she was speaking the truth, no matter what she would always protect her clan. "We have different ways of protection, you protect thru healing and I protect thru fighting when needed. Both ways are just as important as the other" she mewed with a small smile

Whispermoon hummed slightly, "You protect in more ways than just fighting. You protect by giving each new kit someone to look up to. They all want to be like you one day. Not many want to be like me, covered in leaves and smelling like herbs and sickness all the time." She chuckled at her own timid type of joke, her gaze sweeping towards the apprentice's den, remembering how from the start she had known she would never sleep in that den. For a moment she watched them, gaze drawn to Poppypaw as usual, the nature of the young she-cat amusing her.
"How has it been? Adjusting to different dens like this?" Her own adjustment period had been rough, the silence in the den without Mumblefall had hurt, and for the first few weeks she had lost sleep. She had to imagine switching from the warrior's den to the leader's den and then to the nursery wasn't the easiest. Of course, her observations hinted that it may have been made easier by someone.

Echostar shuffled her forepaws before her nose twitched in amusement as Whispermoon spoke about how kits dreamed of being leader. Her own gaze followed the medicine cats and landed on her own apprentice "While many do dream of being leader only the special few dream of being medicine cat" she mewed with a smile, while she enjoyed training Poppypaw she could see how the young she-cat leaned more towards medicine cat than warrior and was merely waiting for the day when either Whispermoon or Poppypaw let her know of the change.
Feeling both amusement and embarrassment swell up at Whispermoon's question, she hummed briefly "different, sometimes I can't sleep in the leaders den, too quiet. The nursery is more relaxing, with Driftfire there" she mewed, pointedly avoiding mentioning Jaggedpeak.
