She scanned eagerly for Cougarpaw, prepared for a comment or a playful jab, but she didn't see him. Her face fell in her mystification, but her green eyes snagged on him when he moved from a snowpile. Aurorapaw snorted as she freed herself from the snow, and she trotted over to him. "You fell too?" She looked him over, trying to fathom whether he did it intentionally or not. What the case might be, she didn't give him much of a chance before she spun on her paws. The trees were so close! She quickly crossed the distance and slapped her paw against the trunk of the closest one. "Well, it looks like I won," she said out loud as she peered into the deep, dark woods ahead of them.

"I was too busy laughing at you to watch my footing" He shot at her playfully, though he snorted as she bolted to the trees. Managing to disentangle himself from the snow he tried to shake as much of it off as he could while he trotted over "so it does" he agreed with a smile as he came up beside her, looking into the trees as well. He shifted his paws slightly as he noted all the shadows "how can anyone live under trees, its so cramped" he muttered

"Yeah, right? I don't get it. It's so dark in there... But I'm sure what we've been told have been kit tales!" Aurorapaw was confident that they wouldn't find anything harmful. The eerie quietness could be attributed to the snow, and the shadows were obviously the tree shadows. She took a few steps forward and then paused. She didn't feel any different, so it had to be safe. She turned to look at Cougarpaw, then waved him forward with a sweep of her tail. "Let's go! Maybe we can come back with a story that will make the other apprentices jealous." The snow was deeper here, and the air felt colder, but she was sure those could be explained by something too.

Cougarpaw had to give a small chuckle at her words, "true" he agreed before taking a step forwards, grumbling slightly as his paw sunk deeper into the snow than it usually did on the moors. "Though, I do have to ask how much is kit tales and how much is true" he pondered with a smile as he looked back at Aurorapaw "come on, its not that bad"

Aurorapaw followed right behind Cougarpaw, remaining quiet in favor of watching and listening. They moved past the thick forest slowly, and despite her knowledge of what caused every part of the eeriness, part of her mind wandered towards superstition. Was there something else that was behind it that they didn't know about? It was almost daunting to think about, and by the same token, it was also daring and fun. What if they saw something that couldn't be explained by logic? They could bring the knowledge back to the clan, and they'd get recognition for it... right? "It's not so scary here," she said aloud, glancing up at the tree branches as if to tempt something otherworldly from hiding. "I guess nothing bad here exists!"

Cougarpaw nearly wanted to wince at the words "I wouldn't tempt anything" he mewed with some amusement in his voice, cause he couldn't find it in himself to see anything bad about the forest. "Though I can't find anything to support the old tales either" he said with a small huff of air.
(what do you want to do from here? have them encounter something thats not deadly but spooky, like a skunk or something?)

(Skunk sounds fine!)
“Maybe I shouldn’t... but then where would the fun in that be?” she asked with a laugh. She didn’t actually expect anything to happen, and because of that her attitude was relaxed. It was definitely unwise, but she didn’t see it that way. Even if it were pointed out to her, she’d be hard-pressed to see it in that moment. Aurorapaw continued forward, eyes scanning, but the environment didn’t change around them. The trees were as thick as ever, and the bristling pine needles blocked out a lot of the light. The apprentice was so busy staring at the tree branches that she didn’t immediately notice that the air was off. The scent was musky, a little foul, and more than a little pungent, and only when it grew stronger did she notice it. “What is that awful smell?” she complained, tilting her head so she could hide her nose in her thick fur.

Nose wrinkling, Cougarpaw slowed down as he looked around the area with caution "I'm not sure...." he mewed, his voice trailing off slightly as he tried to find out where the scent came from. He nearly jumped as he heard a noise to the right, his head whipping around to see a black and white shadow lumbering by, its tail slightly raised as it studied them. "c-could it be that?" he asked, wondering if Aurorapaw would know what the creature was.

Aurorapaw turned to look at what Cougarpaw indicated, and she nearly jumped out of her fur when she saw the creature staring at them. "M-maybe," she forced out, her voice a croaky whisper. She took a step back, then another, eyes locked on whatever it was. She tried to think if it was dangerous, and it took her a long moment to place the name to the creature. A skunk! She knew the claws were dangerous, but they didn't often attack cats. It wasn't the worst part about them though. She didn't want to wait around to see what it would do. "It's a skunk. Let's go back!" she said hurriedly, turning on her heel to race the way they had come.

Cougarpaw backed up as well at Aurorapaw's words, he had heard some of the warriors stories about skunks and didn't wish to get sprayed. He turned and followed after his fellow apprentice. He didn't wish to stop until they were far away from these woods and hoped that if he came back the skunk was gone.
