The black warrior scratched some dirt over top the offending pile. "Actually I'm not as concerned about this pile as much as what it means." He looked into the rabbit meadow but everything looked alright from where he stood. "It means," he continued, "that there's at least one fox around and it may be hunting our rabbits." Now that the pile was covered, the air seemed to clear around them but he wasn't sure that the fox had left the area. And here he was with a raw apprentice. The best thing to do he thought was to give Ivypaw a crash course in self defense in case they might encounter the fox while they were out. "I'm going to teach you some basic battle moves just in case we come across this fox," he meowed. He hoped that they wouldn't but he didn't want Ivypaw to be completely defenseless if the worse scenario happened.

Ivypaw didn't pull her paw away from her face until she could be sure that Waspsting had buried the entire thing. Even then, she looked hesitant, pulling it away but scrunching up her nose as though the mere thought of it still disgusted her. At the mention of battle moves, Ivypaw had to resist the urge to jump in excitement. Finally something interesting! She couldn't help the devious smile that reached her face, the smell of fox-dung momentarily forgotten. Still, she asked, "Can we do it away from... here?" she asked, turning her head away and flicking her tail towards the pile he had scraped dirt over.

"Of course," Waspsting replied with a smile. "We'll train over there." There was a small natural clearing free from a lot of the small plants and tall grasses not far from where they stood. That would make a good spot, he thought knowing that any stalking fox wouldn't be able to sneak up on them while they were training. As he walked to the area, he meowed, "I'll teach you 'The Leap and Hold' maneuver. It's excellent for a smaller cat fighting a larger cat or animal." He was pleased with the change of attitude Ivypaw was now showing. Perhaps he should somehow change his training method. This being the first time he mentored any cat, he was teaching the way his mentor had trained him.

Her mood still wasn't great, considering she had the scent of fox-dung still in her nose, never to be forgotten, but she at least felt somewhat better about getting away from all the boring stuff. Maybe if she planted false evidence, she may be able to convince her mentor to take her hunting for intruders. That would definitely be more fun. Flicking her tail as she walked, she made quick work of choosing her position and turned to her mentor with the finality of a cat who had been battling for ages. It was all an act of course, something to put her ahead of more squeamish individuals, but it was the hope that by acting confident, that may just give her the edge. Crouching down, she placed one paw ahead of her as though she was stalking prey. However, her lashing tail was enough to say she was not patient enough for that at the moment. "So I guess I'm just jumping and holding?" she asked, but didn't really feel she needed to. It sounded basic enough.

Waspsting watched Ivypaw with interest as she tried to display her confidence. He wasn't sure if she really was confident, a problem in itself that would come out in a know-it-all attitude, or if she wasn't confident but trying to hide it. Either way he would have to watch and see. He hoped for the latter, however. "That's right," he replied. "You jump on your opponent's back and cling on but for now not with your claws during this practice. A bite to the neck is helpful too," he added. He stood with his feet apart and crouched slightly waiting for Ivypaw's attack. "Ready."

No sooner had he given the okay was she springing towards him, almost jumping too short when she aimed for his back. Surprisingly, she landed straight on him, and almost forgetting his previous statement, dug her claws into his back. Despite what her personality might have suggested, she wasn't an overly aggressive cat--she just didn't want to slip off. She didn't even think to bite the neck as she focused entirely on making sure she didn't fall off.

Sharp pricking pain in his shoulder blades and hindquarters caused Waspsting to grit his teeth. Did he not just tell her to keep claws sheathed? The pain wasn't terrible. It was akin to tripping into a thorn bush. But it was definitely annoying. "I said NO claws," he grunted, then thought two can play at this. "Watch out for this defense." Waspsting rolled to the ground knocking Ivypaw off his back. He did the maneuver cleanly and was up on his feet quickly. "That is called the 'Drop and Roll' defense. When you do the 'Leap and Hold' prepare to spring clear when your opponent starts to drop."

Ivypaw almost sent a sharp retort his way, but she was still focused on keeping her balance, and apparently that wasn't even within her best interests. Her eyes widened as she felt Waspsting shift beneath her, and before she knew it she was tumbling downward, falling onto her side and rolling over as her mentor basically disposed of her like she was a bothersome tick. Moving back onto her stomach she glared at him, but not with any true malice. "What are you supposed to do if you can't dig in your claws?" she asked him, then huffed. "Either way, you end up being squashed or being thrown back."
