“I do,” Bayflower replied, bursting to say and ask more, but knowing Shrikestar must be tired, and besides, it wasn’t really his to ask about anyways. “We can rest before we go back, if you’d like. I know a sheltered spot by the river, and I can catch you some prey.” He knew the leader had to be starving.

Shrikestar nodded quickly, jumping at the chance of a topic change. "That sounds just like what I need. Thanks, Bayflower," he said with some appreciation. Eating was the last thing he actually wanted to do, given how much his stomach was churning, but he knew he had to keep his strength up. He also wanted to get as far from the Frozenpool as he could as fast as he could. "Lead the way," he meowed, refusing to look at the pool one last time as he was led away from it.

Flareheart had been about as bored as she could possibly be, wondering if this was even worth it when her body started aching from remaining in the same position for so long. She watched as Bayflower paced around the pool with some envy but she didn't wish to be found out so remained where she was. When Shrikestar woke up, she studied her brother but it didn't seem like anything was different. She listened with half an ear while Bayflower asked questions, only snapping into attention when she heard mention of her past mate, followed by Zephyrpaw.
Her eyes were sharp with both anger and some shock as she realized that Shrikestar was lying! Not only couldn't Zephyrpaw not have been there, since he was still alive, but she had a hard time believing that Creektooth would be there as well, despite the fact that he was with Starclan. She reined in the urge to lunge forwards in anger, forcing herself to remain in the shadows. It came to mind that they would be leaving soon, and if she stayed here, they would spot her immediately. She moved slowly while they were still talking, making sure to keep her steps light and claws sheathed.
Once she was out of the cave, she quickly made her way down the path, heading for home at a fast clip. Her mind was whirling with the information that her brother had lied to the medicine cat about who was at his lives ceremony, and the only reason she could come up with for why he would do that was because it didn't happen! Her brother never received his nine lives, lied about it to a medicine cat and was surely about to deceive the clan. Anger was a prominent emotion, along with a sense of fierce glee, this was more proof to her that Shrikestar was not meant to be a leader.
