NAME: Driftfire
RANK: Queen
AFFILIATION: AspenClan
IMMEDIATE KIN:
Tumblefoot (mate)
Feathersky (mother)
Oakfang (father)
Brackenkit (brother)
Bramblekit (brother)
BASIC APPEARANCE: Grey she-cat with amber eyes.
DETAILED APPEARANCE: Amber eyes stand out like fire against Driftfire's grey pelt, the paler fur on her chest being the only patch on the otherwise perfect slate colour. She's well build beneath her thick coat though not particularly large in size, and she keeps herself well groomed. She has been told she stands as a living shadow of the father she will never know, and carries that knowledge with quiet pride.
PERSONALITY & DESCRIPTION: For someone so young, Driftfire can certainly say a lot about feeling alone in the world, but possibly the most tragic part is that she came so close to experiencing the complete opposite. In different circumstances she would have a doting mother and father, and two brothers to spend her days playing with. That alternate reality was shattered before she was even born, when her father defied the tyrannical rule of the outsiders who took over AspenClan and paid for it with his life. For Driftfire’s mother, the trauma of her mate’s loss resulted in two kits being stillborn and a reluctance to even look at her remaining kit who stands like a living shadow of her lost love. Driftfire quickly already accepted the obvious fact that she is unwanted by her mother, but for reasons unknown even to her she feels no anger about it. Loneliness is all she understands; what confuses her is the way that her denmates are so clearly adored by their parents and have each other for company. At least, that was how she thought before Tumblefoot forced his way into her life. For moons she was confused by the curious tom's insistence on always keeping her company, though as their apprenticeship waned she found herself craving his presence as much as he did hers though she still tried to deny that to herself. It was only the night of their silent vigil that she finally accepted that staying lonely to avoid the heartbreak her mother had gone through was no way to live, and accepted Tumblefoot's proposal to be his mate with nothing but unbridled joy. That was a turning point for Driftfire, and since then she has been quietly building her social confidence and cementing her place as a loved and respected member of the Clan. The sudden death of her first apprentice Brookpaw was a considerable blow as she had grown so fond of the young she-cat, but with Tumblefoot's help she still tries to strive to do better for both herself and for Brookpaw's memory. The one aspect of her kithood that still clings on is her anxiety around motherhood; as much as she so desperately wants to have kits one day she is terrified of raising them wrong, as she can't understand how she could ever be a good mother when she hardly had one to look up to herself. But the faith that Tumblefoot has in her is always enough to coax her out of her comfort zone. She often wonders about how she used to be so content just drifting through a lonely existence, but he has given her something worth anchoring to.
