In newleaf, the marsh bloomed, and when she had time, Brightsplash liked to wander. Sometimes she'd watch marsh birds, going about their business, with no interference or attempt to catch them. Othertimes she'd close her eyes and listen to the noises around her, purring quietly in the bushes. Today, she was sunning herself, stretched out on a dry flat of mud, when she heard pawsteps. She opened her eyes slowly and looked over towards the noise sleepily.

"Hello," Thunderstorm meowed as he came upon the dozing Brightsplash. He had been out enjoying the warmer weather and wanted to check out his favorite fishing spots when he saw his clanmate. It had been awhile since their ill-fated hunting excursion when all they brought back to camp were wounds from a battle with raccoons. He flexed his hind leg where the worst of his injuries was. It seemed to be healing nicely. Thunderstorm had wanted to talk with Brightsplash since the battle but one thing and another seemed to keep them apart...until now. "Nice day, isn't it? So, how are you doing since our battle?"

Brightsplash looked over at the tom brightly, a purr rising in her chest. "Hello, Thunderstorm," she murmured, pushing to her feet to move so she could see him better. "I'm faring well. Just a bit of soreness. Bayflower's a young medicine cat, but he's smart and he cares." She licked down a bit of ruffled fur. "What do you think of Shrikestar?"

He wondered what Brightsplash meant by her question but Thunderstorm replied truthfully. "I haven't had much personal interaction with him but I believe he's an able leader and an asset to our clan." Clan leaders are selected by StarClan. Who was he to question their great wisdom?

"I suppose," Brightsplash replied. "He hasn't done much, but I suppose everything's alright. Sometimes I think he's nervous. But I suppose any cat ought to be." She continued to lick her fur. "We have to trust Floodstar. Well, Floodfield. Goodness, if a cat ever did deserve retirement, it's him. He guided the Clan through such hardship..."

"He did," Thunderstorm agreed. "The fire first and then the flood were both devastating. One would have been bad enough but both one right after the other..." He left his sentence unfinished. That was a hard time for all the clans. Thank StarClan most came through it alright. "I miss Floodfield's leadership but I think we'll do okay with Shrikestar."

Brightsplash nodded, deciding not to share her suspicions with the tom. "That was an awful time for us all," she murmured, standing up after she deemed herself presentable. "Fancy a walk?" It wasn't often she was given the opportunity to simply enjoy the territory alongside a clanmate. She stretched as she looked back at him, waiting for his answer.

A broad smile lit up Thunderstorm's features. "That's a wonderful idea," he meowed. "Where would you like to go?" It was about time he that he was able to kick back for a bit. Especially after all he and the clan had been through recently. He didn't catch the sickness that had struck the clan but there were days he secretly envied those cats who were confined to their nests. But that was only because he was dead on his paws doing double shifts of hunting and patrolling.

Brightsplash quickly hopped to her paws, pausing briefly to think it over. "Hmm," she murmured, glancing up as she thought. "How about the lake? Haven't been there in a while." She hopped to a dry patch of marsh, carefully avoiding a patch of mud.
