Softpaw could admit readily that she missed her mother, missed the nest that she shared with her siblings and mother in the nursery. She took a look around the den she was in, before letting loose a low breath and slipped out of the apprentices den. It was just breaching dawn, and she knew that she had the day off from training, Rushwind having told her the day before. She looked up at the sky, watching as the stars disappeared with the approaching sunrise.

Mousefern pulled herself out of the warriors’ den. She could feel the cold air against her fur, and she sighed against it. It reminded her of Nettleshade. The snow claimed her mate, and she didn’t know if she could trust it ever again. It was one of the hardest times for her too, since scents were dampened and the feel of the ground was different. At least it was still only leaf-fall. She opened her mouth to taste the air, and out of all the scents mingling around her she immediately picked out Softpaw’s. Mousefern followed it like a thread until she bumped into her daughter’s side. “Softpaw,” she said, a smile growing on her face. While she would forever grieve Nettleshade and Quiverkit, she still had Softpaw and Squeakpaw. “How are you doing this morning? It’s quite early.”

Softpaw heard pawsteps and caught her mothers scent moments before she felt a bump against her side. She purred in greeting and turned her head so she could rub her head against her mothers shoulder. "I'm doing good momma, just couldn't sleep." She mewed, she refrained from delving deep into the reason for why she couldn't sleep. "Rushwind says I have the day off" she offered, wondering if she could spend the day with her mother.

Soft and familiar voices creeping into the den had him raising his head from his paws, ears twitching at the familiar feeling of waking up to soft conversations between his parents, between him and his sister. He shuffled out of his nest, poking his head out of the den to catch sight of Softpaw and Mousefern a yawn splitting his jaws and a small squeak escaping him. Stepping further from the den he slid over to them, blinking sleepily at both of them before he nuzzled into his mother's fur, like a kit seeking warmth and comfort.

Mousefern focused her senses on Softpaw, a smile broadening her expression. “You have the day off, do you?” She could hear the query behind what was actually said, and she nodded. “Then it seems like we have no choice but to spend the day doing something, hmm?” It didn’t take long for her to notice another scent she knew by heart. She leaned into Squeakpaw’s touch, purring contentedly. “You wouldn’t happen to also have the day off, Squeakpaw?” It seemed like too much of a good coincidence, but then she couldn’t imagine Otterspirit having an issue with her taking Squeakpaw off his paws for a day.

Softpaw purred at Squeakpaw's appearance and nuzzled her brother lovingly, wondering if they would be able to spend the day together as a family. "You good to stay with us Squeakpaw?" she asked, trying to hide the longing she had in her voice at the question.

(Since they're warriors now, should we drop this? Or continue?)
