we are like the earth and sky.
It was nearly sunhigh, and Floodfield hadn’t visited yet! Cloverkit paced the nursery, pouncing on anything that moved. He’d promised to show her warrior moves. Where /was/ he? Just when she felt she couldn't take it anymore, and was about to run out of the den to find him herself, she scented him approaching. She scrambled up to meet him, nearly knocking him down as she pounced. "Dad!" she cried, all purrs as she rubbed against his legs. "Dad! I was so bored! You said we could do warrior training!"

Being a father was everything that Floodfield had imagined and more. He had always loved being a mentor and helping young cats learn that way, but having two kits of his own was essentially being a parent and a mentor rolled into one with how much Cloverkit and Lakekit pestered him for warrior training. Perhaps it was because they knew of how he'd once lead the Clan, since he couldn't remember any of his friends who had also been parents being subjected to quite the same level of pestering. But he only had to look at his family for him to remember how he could never mind it in the slightest.
The moment he entered the Nursery he was ambused by his daughter, and he sagged sideways with a laugh as she clung onto his help. "Hello Cloverkit, I'm very sorry to keep you waiting," he apologised with a voice tinged with amusement, tilting his head back to touch noses with his mate and son before focusing back on Cloverkit. "I had to speak to Shrikestar about something. But now I'm free all afternoon for all the training you want," he said, smiling at the enthusiasm on her face. It was clear that she'd inherited Brookshine's spark while the milder Lakekit took after him much more, and while he'd dedicated that afternoon to Cloverkit alone it didn't mean he loved his son any less.

Cloverkit remained at his side as he turned to Brookshine and Lakekit, tail high behind her and flicking about like a minnow in a stream. She could barely contain her excitement. A whole afternoon with her Dad? Her purrs escalated into a ragged tumult, and she pawed at his side, pounced on his tail, unable to stay still. "Yes!" she cried, louder than she ought to. "Dad, you've got to show me fighting moves! I want to be the best! You'll make me the best warrior ever, right?" She had absolute total faith in his ability to do so, but she wanted to know if he'd put the time in. She bounced towards the entrance, practically shaking with energy. "Come on!"

"You and your brother will both be the best warriors ever," Floodfield replied, giving Lakekit a smile as he spoke. After so many moons as leader he would have been ignorant to ever think that fighting prowess was all that made a warrior, so he meant it genuinely when he said that Cloverkit and Lakekit would make equally great warriors. Even if Lakekit was a hunter rather than a fighter, if they both had their parents' conviction then WillowClan would be proud of them. "I'm coming, I'm coming," he laughed as Cloverkit took off towards the entrance, following on behind her into the mostly empty clearing. "Right then, let's get started. Have you and Lakekit practised anything yet you can show me?"

"Of course!" Cloverkit cried, bounding to keep up with him and skidding as they reached the clearing. "We practice everyday!" Well, she roped Lakekit into letting her use him as a crash dummy, or at least watch her as she shredded moss. She swiped her paw forward, claws unsheathed. "Warrior's swipe!" she yelled. She gathered up her energy, wiggling before launching herself into the air and crashing into his side. "Warrior's leap!" she cried as she jumped. She paused to catch her breath. "And I know so many more," she said, looking up at her Dad with adoration. "I've been making moves up! That way no one will expect them!"

Floodfield watched with a proud smile as Cloverkit demonstrated what she'd already worked, rocking back slightly to ride out the impact as she crashed into his side for the second time that day. "You'd make an incredible warrior already," he told her as she got her breath back. "You've got enough strength and enthusiasm already that no-one can teach. But we're going to work on your control. You need to hit them carefully or you'll be too tired to keep fighting." His expression gained an amused note as he nudged his daughter's side with a tail since she was still breathing heavily.

Cloverkit stared up at her father with admiration, completely blindsided by his compliment. She was already good enough to be a warrior? That meant if she trained harder, she could be the best warrior in the entire Clan! She supposed he had a point though, she was pretty tired already. But she'd worked hard to impress him with her moves! Holding back wasn't fun at all. "So, just attack a little bit?" she chirped, tilting her head curiously as she stared up at him. "A bunch of little attacks is better?"
